Submission Guidelines
General Information
Augenblick accepts submissions for publication throughout the year. Articles or media projects are published when they have undergone editorial review and revision.
We accept submissions by email to ubc.augenblick@ubc.ca.
Detailed Guidelines
In your email, include the following information.
Your full name, institutional affiliation (university or college), and year of study.
Your subject line should be any combination of name, institution, and reason for contacting: [John] [Doe] [UBC] Augenblick Submission.
Offer a brief summary of your submission.
Your submitted file and project should be:
Saved with your last name + “submission” as identifying factor: [Doe]_Submission.
Sent as a Word or Writer document: we only accept .doc, .docx, and .odt files—PDFs are not accepted.
In the case of a submission that is a traditional academic paper or an essay, the file should start with your project title, followed by your name and university affiliation, and a short abstract of about 150 words outlining your project’s main points.
We have no limits in terms of length. Submission length depends on the project. Some projects are shorter and others are longer. If you have any concerns, contact the managing editor of the journal.
Augenblick follows the latest MLA style guide. Your submission should adhere to it, which includes following MLA in-text citation + bibliography standards.
All submissions must be your original work. If you are inspired by the work of others, you must cite this work appropriately. We follow UBC’s policies regarding academic integrity and plagiarism. Conversely, if you are a student at another institution you are bound by your institution’s academic integrity policies and the student handbook there.
Publication languages are English and German. If you are planning to publish in another language or have multi-lingual submission ideas, please reach out. We are glad to support various formats as resources permit.
If you are writing an artist’s statement to accompany your work, you might appreciate this guidance on writing an Artist Statement. You will also find sample artist statements here for Established Artists, full page and short.
