Our History.
In Fall 2021, a team consisting of Dr. Ervin Malakaj (UBC Director of Undergraduate Studies in German), Emilie Kneifel, and Gabrielle Bonifacio (undergraduate assistants) began developing programs intended to engage students and support the UBC German Studies program.
The three initiatives that emerged in order to connect with students and promote undergraduate research/creative work relating to German Studies are listed below.
We are particularly proud of our inaugural German Studies Undergraduate Research Showcase, which we organized in partnership with Dr. Jason Groves (University of Washington) and Dr. Elena Pnevmonidou (University of Victoria).
-
Augenblick is an annual student-run academic journal published by the UBC German Studies program.
The journal provides an opportunity for students to share their work. It also provides students experience working in publishing and broader community work.
-
GSURS is an annual showcase for all students at UBC, UVIC and UW, whose project relates in some way to German Studies.
The showcase provides students an opportunity to network, share their work, and get feedback from peers and professors.
